Matagorô was a popular subject in Japanese art and literature, and he was often depicted as a heroic warrior who fought against fierce beasts and monsters. He was known for his bravery, strength, and skill with a sword, and he was considered a symbol of courage and determination.

This Japanese ukiyoe image is by the great master, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, circa 1835 (Edo period). The back is hand-drawn by our artists, exploring the original's smoke and magical-haze motifs.
