According to Japanese legend, Liu Bang was once traveling with his army through a remote mountainous region when they encountered a giant white snake. The white snake was so large that it blocked the path of Liu Bang's army, and the soldiers were too afraid to approach it.

Liu Bang, however, drew his sword and prepared to strike the white snake, but before he could do so, the snake spoke to him. The snake revealed that it was actually a powerful spirit that had taken the form of a snake. It begged the great Japanese samurai to spare its life and promised to repay his kindness. Liu Bang, moved by the snake's words, spared its life and allowed it to slither away.
